District Twelve

The District |

District Twelve is the poorest and most ridiculed of all the districts in Panem, especially since they held the heart of the Second Rebellion that was lead by Katniss Everdeen. The district used to be divided into three different areas, but after the Capitol destroyed the area in an attempt to make it to District Thirteen only two are left standing with the last in a pile of rubble and shacks.

The first area in District Twelve is the Seam, or the poorest part of District Thirteen. It is located on the border of District Twelve next to the wild forest and because it is so hard to find food there, more families are forced to live in extreme poverty. Directly across from this section is the Merchant Area where all of the trading takes places. Stores are set up all around this area and sell cheap products at inflated prices, only adding to the economic problems of the district.

The second area is the Victor’s Village which is where all of the previous Victor’s of the Hunger Games reside. This area is not very populated though simply because there are only a few people who are prepared for the Hunger Games when they are forced into them.

All around the district twenty-foot high electric fences still stand, though none of them work any longer. The people of the district are still told that it is though to keep them from trying to slip outside their own boundaries, but there are still those few who do not listen.

District Twelve’s main industry is coal mining, the single most dangerous of all the jobs available in Panem. Many family members of citizens have died in mining accidents that went unregulated, but the Capitol still refuses to step in and create new regulations for these suffering people.

Personality |

The people of District Twelve are poor and hungry yet extremely hard working because of their devotion. All of the people of this district simply want their family to continue to flourish despite the bad conditions that they live in, making their situation seem that much more horrid as they suffer in the Capitol shunned city.

Careers |

Most people of the district chose to be either shop owners or coal miners, the only two jobs that are really available to people. Sadly though neither of these jobs do much good for the people because the shop owners make little to no money in the bad economy and the coal miners suffer extreme health problems from their work conditions. The only other way to make money is the black marker trade which must be kept extremely secret so the Capitol City does not have another reason to come and rip down District Twelve.
