“Hell is empty and all the devils are here." - William Shakespeare in The Temptest

Seventy-seven years ago to this year the Panem’s government was attacked by a rebellion lead by one girl, Katniss Everdeen. This one girl along with countless others who had been living in District Thirteen attacked the government and ripped it down to shambles, leaving nothing of the previous one behind except painful memories that were locked in trunks and stored away to never be opened again. The new world that was created was peaceful, perfect even and not one person was ever subjugated to the atrocities of the Hunger Games again; or at least until the new rebellion began.

Nearly five years after they had fallen, the old Panem government emerged from hiding with an underground army large enough to take down Katniss’s new government with ease. At midnight they stormed into the new Capitol City and burned it to the ground, reclaiming it as their own before taking each and every member of the new government into the streets and brutally slaughtering them. All of this was done to get one message across, that any type of rebellion would be put down with severe force and that anybody who even had an inkling of an idea to throw another coup d’état would perish in a fiery hell.

To ensure that another rebellion would never take place, a new reign of terror began and at the lead stood the frostbitten president; her name was President Nikolaievna. She began by reeducating the districts in the ways of her own brand of terror and sending military forces into each of them to enforce the idea of one supreme ruler before moving onto much more important things such as reforms. The first and foremost rule of her country became this: You will follow what I say without questions and all those of you who do question me will be killed.

Her final and more outrageous act against the people though was the reestablishment of the Hunger Games; the dreaded event was back and with more force than ever.

Once a year children are rounded up between the ages of twelve and eighteen and sent to the Reaping where one male and one female from each district is chosen as a tribute. These children are then sent to the Capitol City where they are paraded around like show animals before they are thrown into the Hunger Games’s arena to be true animals. The only rule of these games is the one that has stood for years, one that strikes fear into the heart of every district citizen; kill or be killed.

If you thought living in Panem was horrid before, then you are in for a rude awakening.

Welcome to Our Own Personal Hell.
